Deed was for the sale of a negro woman to Chilton. in 5 Feb 1827. Witnesses: Eliza Garrett Jr., Joel Parriss, Samuel G Claborn. (Possibly the same William Pryor who served in the War of 1812 in a TN unit with Joel Parrish (sic). When Rowland Flowers, born in Buckingham Co., VA and former resident of Campbell Co., VA applied for a Revolutionary War pension William Chilton swore an oath to his veracity.)

1827 Deed between Chesley Taylor, Spicey Pryor formerly Spicy Taylor and her husband William Pryor and Massey Pryor formerly Massey Taylor and her husband John Pryor, Jane Taylor, Hezekiah Taylor, David Taylor, Pleasant Taylor, Polly Taylor, Elizabeth Taylor, heirs at Law of Edward Taylor late of Virginia and Elizabeth Taylor the Elder widow and relict of said Edward Taylor, having a life estate in his property of on part and William Chilton Junr of the county of Overton and State of Tennessee of the other part. Chilton paid $500 for a slave named Eliza. Witnesses: Joel Pariss, Elijah Garrett, Samuel Claburn. 5 February 1827 (Deed book F, page 144). This is the sale that resulted in a lawsuit in Sumner County, TN–see Sumner County Records.

1827 Deed – Court ordered sale ammended with name of Chesley Taylor. Described Eliza as about 16 years old. January session 1831. (Deed book F, page 176)

1827 Deed – Edward Taylor’s heirs purchased 150 acres on Obed river from William Chilton Jr. Boundary description include William Polk land now owned by Simon Huddleston, Joshua Garrett, a meeting house, McIvers, Chilton warranted the land against all claims but those of Thomas Cope who conveyed to him by William and Thomas Hill executors. Witnesses: Joseph Harris and William Wray. Sold land on Obed River, 150 acres, to William Chilton Jr. Names all the Taylor heirs as above. Indenture date 5 February 1827. (Deed Book F, page 177)

State of Tennessee,
Overton County, October Term of the circuit court eighteen hundred and forty. The grand jurors for the State of Tennessee elected, e.? service and charged to enquire for the body of the county of Overton in the State Aforesaid upon them oath present and Stephen Mayfield yeoman upon the first day of September 1840 with force and .? In the county of Overton in the State of Tennessee in and upon JOHN  PRIOR in the peace of God and our said State then and there being an assault did make and —-? The said JOHN PRIOR did then and there beat? Bruise? Wound and ill treat and other wrongs and injuries to the said JOHN PRIOR then and there did to his —? Damage in contempt of the law of the land and against the peace and dignity of the State. William Cullom, Attorney General. JOHN PRIOR, prosecutor, witness sworn in open court and sent before the grand jury to give evidence in behalf of the State aforesaid this bill of indictment. October 28th 1840.
