1917 Death Reported – Military pension file states W. G. Prior died 16 Jun 1917 at the home of Henry Pollard (not related). The death was reported by E. A. Armond –Prior was his uncle by marriage. An application was made to for Confederate pension funds for burial arrangements. States he was in Co. E, 10th Texas Calvary of the CSA, captured at Vicksburg on 4 July 1863 and received at Fort Delaware on 22 March 1864. He was a prisoner of war til 9 June 1865. Prior completed an affidavit in 1909 stating he had lived in Texas since 1851, he had lived in Rusk County since 1851, and that he was born in GA. He was currently in Henderson, TX. He served in the “Dismounted Cavalry”.

1960 Application for Veteran’s GravemarkerWilliam PRIOR born 16 Apr 1839, died 16 Jun 1917. confederate soldier in CSA, Co. E. 10th Texas Calvary. Buried in Strong Cemetery.
