1745 – “Gloucester land books contain a deed, 1745, from Robert PRYOR and wife to James Baytop, 309 acres on Caney or Craney Creek, Ware Parish next ot Christopher Greenway, Mr. Rigault ad Thomas Wishoms land. Philip Taliaferro (future son-in-law), William Thornton, John Whiting of Ware parish, Peter Whiting of Gloucester, Capt. Francis Whiting of Gloucester, John Whiting of King and Queen Co. (These may be neighbors and should be considered as their surnames are associated with some of the later Pryors).
1774 Notice – The Death of Mr. Hugh McMekin (late of Norfolk) renders it absolutely necessary that the Business carried on by him there, by Mr. Matthew Anderson in King & Queen, and by Mr. Christopher Pryor at Gloucester Courthouse, be discontinued. — Mr Anderson and Pryor will give constant attendance for that purpose who are authorized to receive and grant discharges. 1777 Ad – TAKEN up in Gloucester, two cows and calves. One a black and white, marked with a crop and underkeel in the right ear, and an over and underkeel in the left. The other a red, marked with a crop, slit and underkeel in the right ear, and a crop and a swallow fork in the left. Posted and appraised, the black and white to four pounds thirteen shillings and four pence, and the red to four pounds sixteen shillings and eight pence.

Harris, Wm Arrington, John Spears, who return with their verdict. When the plantiff is called, he answers to his name, upon which the defendant moves his appearance may be recorded, on which motion the divided. John Fleming, Daniel Stoner, and Thomas Dickins are of the opinion his answering is an appearance, and William Mayo, Isham Randolph, and Thomas Turpin that it is not. Whereas at a General assembly lately held at the Capital at Williamburgh. It was Enacted that five Shillings Current Money or Sixty pounds of nett Tobacco should be assessed on and payable from each & every Tithable in the Colony of Virginia towards Defraying the expense of the Expedition to Ohio, half of which is to be levied on the people and payable to the Treasurer in April next. Now the Condition of this obligation is such that if the above Bounden William Pryor Sherriff of the County of Goochland shall well and truly collect Levy & Receive of & from every Tithable person in the County aforesaid two shillings & six pence current Money or thirty pounds of nett Tobacco and shall also well & truly account with and pay to the Treasurer of the Colony for the time being the same Money or tobacco which he shall Receive Then this obligation to be void otherwise to reaming in full power & virtue. 1756 Chancery Court Case – Filed June 1756. John Wright and wife Anne, daughter of John Pryor deceased.vs. John Woodson, son of Rebecca Woodson, daughter of John Pryor. Suit states John Pryor came into 200 acres of land in about 1727 in Henrico County, which is now part of Goochland county, and the land is where the Wrights were living in 1756. The Wrights alledge that John Pryor gave them land only to have the Woodsons convince him in his last sickness during 1755 to deprive them of the land in his will. The case was dismissed in 1758 by agreement. Signed by Valentine Wood, clerk of the court.

Reuben Meriwether , George Meriwether, Nicholas Meriwether, and Shadrack Vaughn and Mary his wife, Reuben and Nicholas infants whose guardian was George Meriwether VS. Samuel Pryor executor and administrator of the estate of William Pryor deceased who was the administrator of Samuel Pryor deceased, John Bolling, and George Payne. George Payne the younger and John Shelton were added by agreement of all parties in 1779.

TWO TRACTS of LAND. One lies in Albemarle County, on Hardware River, about five Miles from the great River, containing 370 Acres, 100 of which are the best Kind of low Grounds, and situated so as always to have the best Range for Stock of any Land between the Capes and Little Mountains.
The other Tract lies in Goochland County, on Lickinghole Creek, near the Three Notched Road, and contains 700 Acres. The high Land is equal to any in these Parts, fine for Tobacco and Wheat, or any Kind of Grain or Meadow. About 200 Acres are cleared, now under good Fences, laid off in three Fields, and in fine Order to work about ten Hands to great Advantage. The Improvements are a good Dwelling-house, Kitchen, Smokehouse, a Diary, four good Tobacco Houses, with Negro Quarters, and other convenient Buildings, also a fine Apple and Peach Orchard. The Place is pleasantly situated, has fine Water, is as healthy as any Part of the Colony, and in convenient to Church or Providence Meetinghouse, and several Mills, besides one on the Land turned by a Spring Branch to grind for three or four Families the whole Year, and is not in the least unhealthy, as the Water may be ground off every Day. Credit will be given for Part of both Tracts. Part of her husband’s estate was land in Goochland County and 484 acres in Dinwiddie County.
Samuel died intestate around 1760-something.
Samuel left an infant under the age of 21 and Frances his widow.
William Pryor took it upon himself to become the administrator of Samuel dec’d estate.
Frances asserted that by her husband’s death that she was entitled to her dower, and his property.
Before proceedings could be concluded between the widow and the estate, William Pryor died in May 1777. William’s estate appointed Samuel Pryor (different than the dec’d) as the execturor of Wm’s estate. Samuel’s answer to the complaint on 18 Oct 1779 identifies Samuel dec’d as the uncle of the younger Samuel (Widow was Frances Morton, first married to Nicholas Meriwether, and later to Samuel Pryor).
