Photo: Parents of James Brock Pryor

Recently a new photo came to light.  I was contacted by someone who bought flea market photos and found that many of the had writing on the back that clearly identified them as Pryors. She found the TN Pryor website and has provided a copy of one of the oldest photos for Pryor researchers. The photo is identified on the back as The Parents of J. B. Pryor. Other photos ID this person as James Brock Pryor. With some reserach we now have the lineage of these Pryors.

James Brock Pryor was born in July 1844 in Graves Co., KY. He is on the 1850 through 1870 Census in Graves Co. His parents were William Pryor b. 1825 and Caroline Lockridge. Several family trees on the Ancestry website place William as a son of Jonathan Pryor and a grandson of Richard Pryor and Mourning Thompson.

The photos correspond with the census records that reveal this Pryor line’s movement from Kentucky, to Texas, and to Memphis, Tennesse.  The photo of William and Caroline Pryor was taken by Hunt photography in Mayfield, Graves County, KY. William Pryor was in Graves Co. on the 1850 and 1860 Census, by 1870 he was recorded in Hickman Co., KY, and in 1880 he was recorded near his son James B. Pryor in Grayson Co., TX.

Other photos are of Lola Allison of Mayfield, KY. The Census records indicate was a grand-daughter of William and Caroline, her mother was Lou Anna Pryor b. 1856.  Another photo is of Opie Cullins, married to  Esther a daughter of James Brock Pryor. James’ wife Nancy Margaret Pryor is in another photo taken in Memphis.

New Photo of William Pryor from Overton Co., TN?

William Pryor (Overton Co)

A new photo of an elderly William Pryor is now on the website. The researcher who submitted the photo received it from a relative of Edward Pryor and Eliza Knight Pryor of Overton Co., TN. The information passed down with the photo is that the older man is William Pryor with his son George Pryor.  It is speculated that these may be William Anderson Pryor b. 1865, son of Edward Pryor with his George B. Pryor b. 1893.  This William and George Pryor lived in Pulaski Co., KY.  It is also speculated that the photo may be “William” Overton Pryor b. 1816, d. 1905 with grandson William George Allen Pryor b. 1873.

Can anyone positively ID these folks?

Native American Pryors

There’s something new on Ancestry.com — the U.S. Indian Census Schedules from 1885-1940. These are very interesting because unlike the U.S. Census of the general population that occurs every 10 years, these census were taken every year. Anglacized names are recorded as well as the individual’s native name, their tribe, age, and family members.
